KEVA Network: Global citizenship in vocational education

The KEVA project is a network of eight Finnish vocational education and training (VET) institutions working together with partner organisations from developing countries. The Finnish National Agency for Education has funded the network since 2009.

VET students and teachers from Finland have had the opportunity to gain practical, voluntary work experience in our partner organisations in Nepal, Tanzania, Uganda and Namibia. Finnish colleges have also hosted visitors from partner countries in seminars and job-shadowing in VET colleges.

The overall objective of networking is to raise awareness of global development issues in vocational upper secondary schools and institutions in Finland.

The KEVA project aims at:

  • Increasing students’ and teachers’ understanding and awareness of global development issues through global education
  • Providing preparation material and study units for students going abroad
  • Developing further the study unit “My Learning Path to Global Citizenship” (15 competence points) on development cooperation and voluntary work, designed jointly by vocational colleges in the KEVA network
    • Students from all eight VET colleges can subscribe for online studies in Global Education, Health and Safety, Voluntary Work, and Development Cooperation.
    • Course contents are freely available for all VET colleges in Finland through the website www.finvet.fi
  • Providing opportunities to work in multicultural environments
  • Encouraging students and teachers to volunteer more, both in Finland and abroad
  • Creating sustainable and open partnerships between Finnish VET institutions and organisations in developing countries
